New Values – New Cities
At the 13th Asian-Pacific City Summit: Special Edition held in October 2021, participants shared current information from cities facing the challenges that have emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic, and exchanged opinions on policies to overcome crises under the Summit’s central theme: The Potential of Cities in the Face of Crises.
At the 13th Asian-Pacific City Summit that will take place this July, we will develop the discussions of the Special Edition and share advanced knowledge with even more concrete examples of initiatives on how to proceed with new urban development based on new values after overcoming crises.

Parallel Session Themes
Theme 1
Actions to Ensure No One Is Left Behind

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the way people behave and their sense of values. There is a growing emphasis on creating inclusive societies where everyone can live a fulfilling life, rather than just focusing on the economic-centric rationality of the past.
In this parallel session, we will discuss a wide range of urban efforts to improve all people’s quality of life by bringing the benefits of various innovations, including digitalization.
Parallel Session Themes
Theme 2
Actions to Achieve a Carbon Neutral Society

It is vital for cities as well as national governments to play major roles in taking environmental measures, and it is important to create a green recovery movement involving businesses, citizens, and others.
In this parallel session, we will discuss various urban initiatives tailored to local industrial and social characteristics to achieve a carbon neutral society.
Parallel Session Themes
Theme 3
Actions towards Creating Cities in the New Normal

In uncertain times, resilient city planning that can flexibly respond to rapid changes is becoming increasingly important, and moves to boldly restructure cities and update urban strategies are accelerating around the world.
In this parallel session, we will discuss a wide range of urban initiatives that boldly take on the challenge of change for future generations, such as smart cities.
